GAE AULENTI "LOCUS SOLUS" DAYBED ITALY - 1960s

This bed was designed by the Italian architect Gae Aulenti, as a representative piece of her work. The name “Locus Solus” comes from a novel by the French writer Raymond Roussel. In the novel, Locus Solus is a place where a wealthy, eccentric inventor displays his bizarre creations. Aulenti was inspired by this concept and created a design that is both functional and aesthetically intriguing.

The straightforward design of Locus Solus reflects her core sensibility in architecture and design. The mattress rests on a lacquered white tubular structure, and the cushion of the bed has been reupholstered in yellow transat canvas fabric.
