This project of renovating and constructing a swimming pool takes place in the context of a beautiful modernist house in Brussels. A holistic approach was required to highlight the identity of the house as it was originally built. We began with the proportions of the façade brickwork and their hue to develop the architectural concept for the ground floor renovation and the construction of the pool.
The aim was to unify the interventions by creating a spatial promenade imbued with yellow, starting from the entrance door, passing through the house and its living spaces, moving through the pool, and culminating in the garden as the project’s focal point. This pathway was drawn to gently reconnect the house with its garden.
Along the way, visitors can discover various perspectives of the house and eventually walk alongside the water, which becomes an architectural element in its own right within the garden.
For this project, the Villa Cavrois by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens served as a modernist inspiration, particularly for its stripped-back volumes and absence of decorative ornamentation, with a clear vision aimed at achieving uniformity.
